Editorial Policies

Focus and Scope

The Journal Ilha do Desterro publishes, since 1979, unpublished articles and reviews in the areas of English, Literature and Cultural Studies. Ilha do Desterro is a periodical from the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras: Inglês e Literatura Correspondente from Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, which publishes three times a year - once every four months. Its greatest goal is to spread the results of academic research in the areas of English, Literature and Cultural Studies.

 

The journal is open to the participation and involvement of authors unrelated to the publishing body or institution. All the received articles, reviews and interviews are firstly analyzed by the editors. Once approved, they are submitted to two referees (peer view), which through a blind evaluation, shall give their final referee about the article, review or interview. The articles, reviews or interviews will only be approved in the condition that they are in accordance with the proposed theme for the edition.

Peer Review Process

Unpublished articles, reviews and interview submitted to this journal will be forwarded to the chief-editor and invited editor to a preliminary analysis, which shall consider the general editorial line and theme of the edition. After this preliminary evaluation the text shall be sent to a blind evaluation by two referees who are part of the Editorial Board, Advisory Board or “ad hoc” consultants, according to the text´s theme (DOUBLE BLIND PEER REVIEW). In the case of disagreement between the two referees, the article, review or interview will be sent to a third referee.

The originals can be: - Accepted without restrictions; - Accepted with some alterations; or, - Rejected. If there are necessary alterations concerning grammatical, orthographic or/and normative aspects, with the objective to keep the homogeneity of the edition, the Editorial Board will make the necessary modifications, respecting the author´s style. In other cases, the author shall revise the text according to what is demanded by the Board. The average number of weeks between submission and publication is 8 weeks. 

Ilha do Desterro does not take responsibility or endorse opinions pronounced by the texts´ authors published in this journal, emphasizing that opinions are their exclusive responsibility.

All communication with the journal, including sending the texts, shall be done through the electronic address (ilhadodesterro@gmail.com) or through the website http://www.periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/desterro/index.

 

Publication Frequency

Three times a year - once every four months, electronic format PDF/A. A minimum of 20 original articles are published every year. 

 

 

Open Access Policy

The online journal is free and open access. Ilha do Desterro Journal provides open access to all of its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Such access is associated with increased readership and increased citation of an author's work. For more information on this approach, see the Public Knowledge Project, which has designed this system to improve the scholarly and public quality of research, and which freely distributes the journal system as well as other software to support the open access publishing of scholarly resources. In addition, there are no article processing charges. 

 

Archiving

The Ilha do Desterro A Journal of English Language, Literatures in English and Cultural Studies Journal is concerned with ensuring long-term access to its content. In case any incident occurs in the serves, the digital files of the journal are preserved in the Rede Cariniana, using the LOCKSS program. LOCKSS creates a file system distributed among the participating libraries, which allows them to create permanent files of their journals for preservation and restoration.
