Educational documentation has been viewed as a methodological tool necessary to the work of teaching, particularly in early childhood education. Is this a recent approach or can documentation be found in the educational field in previous epochs? To identify the history of this practice, the objective of this study was to present elements of Freinet’s educational proposal and to analyze the role of registration and documentation in his work. A bibliographic review was conducted of Freinet’s work, which identified the different types of registration and documentation in Freinet’s pedagogical proposal that are in keeping with the project of constructing schools for the people.
