Transgressions and Resistance of the Primary School Teacher (1930)

The present article analyzes the transgressive behaviors practiced by a young primary school teacher, the protagonist of the novel Eram seis assinalados, written by the Pará-born author Lindanor Celina. The character chooses to break away from the conventional standards of women in teaching that prevailed in the 1930s. Methodologically, the literary work is understood as a documentary source that, through the romantic genre, personifies female characters from the real world. The novel in question was analyzed based on theoretical propositions addressing themes related to the history of women and female teaching. The analysis indicates that the primary teacher ruptures with traditional patterns of the demure woman, presenting behaviors of transgression and resistance against the normative standards imposed on women in the fictional interior city of Pará during the 1930s.
