From the teachings of Heleieth Saffi oti, this paper develops questions elaborated by materialist feminism to intersectional feminism, exposing limits to the use of intersectionality as a method of analyzing reality. Thus, fi rstly, the paper presents the perspective of the intersectionality developed by the North American professor and lawyer Kimberlé Crenshaw, therefore, it selects, translates, and analyzes excerpts from offi cial documents of two notorious cases of discrimination against black women in the United States. Finally, the article discusses four issues on intersectionality developed within feminist studies that use dialectical historical materialism as a method of analyzing reality, especially the books of the Brazilian sociologist Heleieth Saffi oti.
