The Professional Carrer: reviewing concepts and management forms on changing times

Abstract

Organizations are nowadays confronted with several changes, such as: intense level of international competition, improvements in production and service quality, productivity raise and technological innovations. Human Resource Management (HRM) has also changed its activities in order to contribute to business surviving, growth and competitiveness. Organizations need to enhance their employees’ development conditions and the human resource professional is challenged to find new ways of contributing to organizational strategies success. The career subsystem is amongst the activities of the organizational psychology field that have been demanding changes concerning both planning and management. The purpose of this paper is to review conceptions of professional career and management tools in the modern context. It particularly points out the paradoxes of that matter, taken into consideration the complex work environment, full of challenges to the organizational psychologist.

Suzana da Rosa Tolfo, UFSC - Florianópolis - SC

Graduação em Psicologia pela UFSC (1985), especialização em Dificuldades de Aprendizagem pela UFSC (1986), mestrado em Administração pela UFSC (1991) e doutorado em Administração pela UFRGS (2000) . Atualmente é professor adjunto da UFSC, Membro de corpo editorial da READ - Revista Eletrônica da Administração (UFRGS) e Membro de corpo editorial da Revista Psicologia. Organizações e Trabalhos. Tem experiência na área de Psicologia , com ênfase em Psicologia do Trabalho e Organizacional. Atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: macrotendências organizacionais, crescimento humano, qualidade total, subjetividade.
