Introduction: The James Joyce Translation Dossier

Jolanta Wawrzycka

The essays in the present dossier illustrate the extent to which James Joyce’s writing interrogates language, as they put to question claims to univocality and transparency. At the heart of Joyce’s artistic endeavor is the notion of writing-as-translation; Joyce explodes the English he received in the course of his rigorous Jesuit education.
