Biografia do Autor

Piet Van Poucke, University of Ghent, Ghent

Piet Van Poucke (°1968) is associate professor in Russian language and culture and head of the Russian section of the department of Translation, Interpreting and Communication (Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, Ghent University, Belgium). He obtained his PhD (Ghent University) in 1999 with a dissertation on the early literary work of the Russian-Jewish writer Ilya Ehrenburg. He is member of the Research Centre for Literature in Translation (CLIV), steering committee of the “Russia Platform” and coordinator of the annual series of lectures organized by CERISE (Centre for Russian International Socio-political and Economic studies, Ghent University).

Guillermo Sanz Gallego, University of Ghent, Ghent

Guillermo Sanz Gallego earned his joint PhD from both the University of Seville (Spain) and the University of Antwerp (Belgium) in 2011 with a dissertation on Joyce’s Ulysses. In 2013 he published in Atlantis an analysis on the accessibility of the first Spanish translation of Ulysses. His current research focuses on the influence of the Francoist censorship on the translation of The Spanish Civil War by the British historian Hugh Thomas. By analysing paratextual elements and editions, he investigates the influence of sociocultural aspects – such as diasporas, conflict, political taboos, censorship, and manipulation – on the translation process.
