Abstract

The Argentinian writer Robert Arlt is becoming increasingly known by Brazilian readers. The number of translations of his books has multiplied in recent years and he is frequently mentioned in the press as well as in academic writing. In his own native Argentina he took many years to be acknowledged as a major writer, first among his fellows, then in academic circles. On the international scene he began to become known also first in the universities and then by the general public through translations into Italian, French and English. In Brazil he arrived quite late, but occupies nowadays in the canon of translated Argentinian Literature a position superior to authors such as Cortázar and Sabato who were much more valued before.
