Translated Poetry and the Brazilian Modernism

In this article, we point out that a great number of poets were involved in the translation of poetry throughout the modernist period of the Brazilian literature. The translated poetry brought the necessary contribution to the renewal process of the poetic aesthetics. Then, it became relevant in the center of the local literary system, promoting and enriching it from that turning moment initiated on the so-called week of 1922. In parallel to the intranslations, there was a significant increased occurrence of extranslations, something that would attest the success of the aesthetic renewal project. As a consequence, the modern Brazilian poetry was consolidated both in the interior of its own system, as well as in the scope of intersystemic relations.
