Abstract

This paper analyses racionality as one of the epistemeological basis of western civilizations and of modernity, in its interface with mystic and transcendence. It is an analyses considering an historical period from ancient to present times. Supported by classic and contemporary authors, examines the utilitarian nature that permeates the modern reason , as a counterpoint with the transcendental dimension of human being, stressing his mystic slope. Matters as the existencial meaning, gnosticism, religiousness, revelation, scatology, immanence, knowledge, science, market society, subjectivity, ethics, the silence and the unspeakeble, pass by the different approaches and reflexions around the central theme.

Graduação em Agronomia pela UFC (1965); com mestrado em Administração pela UFSC (abril de 2003), especialização em Planejamento Governamental pela UFSC e University of South California (1980-1981), doutorando em Ciências Humanas (Interdisciplinar em Filosofia, Política, Sociologia, História, Geografia, Psicologia e Antropologia) pela UFSC (2004-2007) e professor adjunto 4 da UFSC (desde 1979).
