This paper proposes the concept memory of the future based on the relations between memory, information and science fiction, arguing that the issues of utopia and dystopia are central to the concept being proposed. The view of memory as narrative makes science fiction movies suitable for analysis, since they include different codes which are implicit in a meaning process. This piece of research analyzes ten movies and establishes three axes based on which projective memory of the future is structured, taking memory of the present as its starting point: victory over totalitarian systems; celebrated or negative science; socially contextualized human anxieties.
