Abstract

This article points out sociological variables regarding the construction of the Museo de la Solidariedad in Santiago de Chile throw out the life and work of Mario Pedrosa, a Brazilian intellectual, art critic and political activist. During the Chilean exile period (1971 to1973), under Unión Popular government, Pedrosa worked on the governments institutional framework under the umbrella of a social change project. The context reveals us specific social solidarity types, as well as the strategies in daily bases in which the intellectual engages him self in order to institutionalize utopias. This short period of action reveals the possibilities of complex social networks in the art world as well as its solidarity bases, articulated with a political project, framed by an ideological-utopian world view.
