Abstract

This article presents the reflections of the doctoral thesis whose theme is the relationship with death and the dead in contemporary times. The idea is to discuss the use of cremation and the growth of this type of funeral as a way of reflecting on relevant issues concerning the use of this funerary model and its relation with a hidden death ideal, today. Through a brief background and the discussion of its advantages to the society and public health that were found in a  document, in the early twentieth century, we sought to understand the relation between cremation and contemporary death conception.
