Scientific communication about health in Brazil: a literature review

Abstract

This work is about the emergent of scientific communication about health in Brazil and shows which were the scientific journals published in this country in 19th century. The methodology utilized was the exploratory literature review that implicated in a systematic search for scientific articles registered in SciELO, and 49 works were founded in the period of 1998 to 2012. From the analyzed abstracts, the articles that have historic aspects and bring information about the emergent and the development of scientific communication in Brazil in 19th century were selected. The results confirm that the scientific journals are the communication vehicle to health’s field that most contribute to science advancement. It distinguishes the importance of the “Gazeta Médica da Bahia” as a periodic that had participated of the beginning of the scientific communication in the country and continues with regular publication until 2012.
