Freud and Lady Macbeth
Abstract
The present paper is a review of Freudian formulations on the stage play Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, going, specially, into the interpretation of Lady Macbeth’s motivations - character who according to Freud is a typical example of personality who falls into ruin as her ambition is achieved. Additional aspects are regarded, from Harold Bloom’s considerations, which aim to go through some points disregarded in Freudian’s approach concerning to the tragedy without, nevertheless, neglecting them. The speculative feature of the analyses of a character’s personality in a stage play is even emphasized, taking into account that no interpretation could be stated as definite.Downloads
