Authors

  • Rafael Raffaelli

Abstract

The purpose of this essay is to analyze some of the epistemological determinants of Freud’s psychoanalytical theory. The origins of the Freudian ideas towards metaphysics, biological reductionism, and sexual theory are reviewed. Some aspects of the theories by Herbart, Brentano, Weber, Fechner and the contributions of Charcot, Breuer and Fliess are analyzed. Freud’s ideas about the scientific status of psychoanalysis and about its relationship with the human sciences are also reviewed.
