School parasports in Blumenau/SC: inclusion and accessibility for all

This experience report aims to discuss the experience of implementing the Programa Paradesporto Escolar (PPE) in Blumenau (SC) as a public policy for social inclusion and its relation with the university extension developed by the Fundação Universidade Regional de Blumenau (FURB). The information presented was collected in the reports from 2011 to 2015 and in an unstructured interview with the PPE coordinator about 2016. In 2014, a research was carried out with the parents / guardians about socio-behavioral changes of the children after the beginning of the activities in the PPE; and with regular teachers on motor skills, socialization and communication skills. The University Extension project promotes health education actions with the participants. The research carried out showed that parents / guardians and teachers noticed improvements in all the indicators evaluated. The PPE is a public policy of social inclusion that is pioneering and inspiring for other Brazilian municipalities, and has the University Extension as a partner for health promotion actions.
