First Week of Forestry Engineering at the Federal University of Southern Bahia: a report on an integrated extension experiencetítulo

Abstract

University extension takes shape in various ways, including through events that consist of short-term actions, without a continued nature, aimed at public presentation, dissemination, and/or exhibition. Thus, the objective of this article is to present an experience of curricularized extension through the I Week of Forest Engineering at the Federal University of Southern Bahia (UFSB). The event was organized by students of the program with direct support from two professors, within the scope of the course "Communication and Forest Extension." The event was held in both remote and in-person formats and included lectures, short courses, technical visits to UFSB laboratories, as well as activities in four schools across three different municipalities in southern Bahia. The main outcomes revealed the participation of approximately 200 people, including those who attended the on-campus activities, the itinerant actions in schools, and members of the university community. Therefore, the initiative was positive, as it aligns with the principles of university extension by promoting real integration between the university and society through dialogical interaction in the field of forest engineering. The active participation of students in organizing the event, with faculty support, also highlights student protagonism and the strengthening of academic training through extension practices.
