Abstract

This essay main concern is to show that there are some
identities and similarities among a Brazilian reality and
Barcelona’s in Spain, although there is a quality and intensity
differential. In order achieve its goals this paper starts defining
which Barcelona is been discussed, since there are many
Barcelonas, and several Barcelona “models”, which are an
indication of Barcelona’s large space-time path towards
globalization and to its gradual alienation from its citizens and
inhabitants. Afterwards it is emphasized the existing differences
among many social appropriation distinctive forms as well as some considerations on which first world is this, so close and so different from Brazil and other Latin-American countries. Finally, to conclude, some considerations are made on possible ways to fight for the right to the city and to stand against its commodification dominating trends.
