Abstract

Santa Catarina Coastal Province in southeastern Brazil is constituted by two main unities: the basement and Pelotas and Santos basins. It's setorized in three sectors: North, Central and South sectors. Southern basement comprehends sedimentary and basaltic rocks, Central is dominantely granitic and Northern consists of granitic and metamorphic litotipes, as gneisses, migmatites, granulites and schists. Pelotas and Santos basins are constituted by emerged and submerged portions, represented by coastal plain and continental shelf. The holocenic sedimentary covering of the continental shelf comprehends several facies. The coastal plain includes continental and transitional or coastal systems, represented by coluvial, alluvial fan, fluvial, marine, eolic, lagoon and paludial deposits. It's large in North and South sectors and narrow in Central sector.
