Políticas públicas e degradação ambiental em Itajaí, SC

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyse the public policies
affecting Itajaí municipality environment in the State of Santa Catarina. We pretend to reach this objective by examining environmental degradation of Saco da Fazenda mangrove in Itajaí. One of the few ecological sustainable alternatives to this locality is the recomposition of its physical characteristics and the restoration of its flora and fauna. This will lead to public policies promoting environmental and social sustainable development by means of local engagement within the global context as reference. We divided the present article in the following sections: (i) introduction, (ii) occupation process and environment degradation in Itajaí municipality, (iii) recent urban development of Itajaí and Saco da Fazenda’s environmental degradation, (iv) Saco da Fazenda’s weak environmental and social sustainability, and (v) final considerations.
