Geomorphic processes and the fluvial equilibrium stage of the high Parana River, south-center of Brazil

This paper evaluated the current hydrodynamic,
sedimentologic and geomorphologic processes of the high Parana
River channels and its relationships with the quaternary fluvial
evolution. The relative data of the quaternary geomorphic history
and the current river regimen showed that the river is in a present hydro-geomorphologic disequilibrium. Despite multi-channel
configuration, the fluvial system develops an adaptive phase in
correspondence with the new hydrologic and neotectonic
conditions. However, there is not a classification system in the
literature taking into account the current High Parana River.
