Cities if grew in river banks are susceptible to periodic processes of flooding. In order to minimize or do away with this problem, they are built dams in riverbeds holding back the waters and contributing to the regulation of flows. In Macaíba city (Rio Grande do Norte State) floods were constant until before the construction of Tabatinga reservoir that was built for the main purpose of holding periodic floods, associated with the river Jundiaí. The aim of this study was to evaluate the perception of the residents of the urban area of the city of Macaíba regarding the construction of the reservoir. As a methodological resource was applied, among residents, a questionnaire approved by the ethics committee of UFRN. The results showed that the population associates the reservoir at the end of seasonal flooding in urban areas, and also considers it important to the rural area. In the speaks of respondents you can see that they feel relief from the end of the floods.
