Plantação, Raça e Racialismo: regressando ao binômio infraestrutura-superestrutura

Resumo

Menos que intervir em discussões do tipo hermenêutico-teológico sobre as sagradas escrituras de Marx, com seus conceitos-chave, suas aplicações e versões, vou neste artigo homenagear de um modo mais genérico o seu legado de interpretação do mundo, um legado que herdamos e do qual nos beneficiamos nas análises que fazemos, alguns de nós sem o reconhecer, outros em plena consciência. Começarei por abordar essa consciência dando conta de uma genealogia de algumas décadas entre a história e a antropologia, para, em seguida, discutir a articulação entre infraestrutura e superestrutura, que, por um lado, é um legado de base do marxismo e, por outro, emerge da minha pesquisa em economias de plantação e racialismo. O ponto de chegada e argumento central do artigo consiste em demonstrar como a economia da plantation, ou infraestrutura, gerou a ideologia, ou superestrutura, do racialismo.

 

Biografia do Autor

Cristiana Bastos

Investigadora-coordenadora no Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa. O trabalho situa-se na intersecção entre as disciplinas de antropologia, história e estudos sociais da ciência, da tecnologia e da medicina, tendo abordado dinâmicas populacionais, mobilidades transnacionais, biopolítica colonial, medicina e o império, história social da saúde e do bem-estar e, nos últimos anos, os processos de racialização nas sociedades de plantação e as interações entre humanos e plantas. Trabalhou em diversos contextos etnográficos e históricos – nordeste do Algarve, Brasil urbano, América do Norte, Goa colonial, Moçambique e Angola, Hawaii e Guiana. Lecionou em programas de pós-graduação nas Universidades de Lisboa, Coimbra, ISCTE, Brown University, Universidade de Massachusetts (Dartmouth e Lowell), UNICAMP e UERJ; foi pesquisadora visitante no East-West Center, na University of Hawaii at Manoa, e no Global Health Program de Harvard.
