O Negacionismo do HIV e o Acesso aos Antirretrovirais na África do Sul de Thabo Mbeki

O texto foca no liti?gio judicial pelo acesso a? nevirapina – um medicamento antirretroviral para evitar a transmissa?o do HIV de ma?e para filho. A ac?a?o teve lugar na A?frica do Sul no ini?cio da de?cada de 2000 e pode ser considerada o estopim do que ficou conhecido, na?o sem contestac?a?o, como a “controve?rsia da AIDS” nesse pai?s. Em uma situac?a?o inusitada na histo?ria da epidemia, a controve?rsia envolveu ativistas, cientistas e poli?ticos contra o governo do enta?o presidente Thabo Mbeki – acusado de apoiar o “negacionismo da AIDS”. Neste trabalho, descrevo os desdobramentos judiciais, cienti?ficos e morais desse enfrentamento e sugiro que, se tratando do estudo de liti?gios e de controve?rsias como esta, uma antropologia da cie?ncia, se levada a se?rio, deve ser compreendida, a rigor, como uma antropologia poli?tica.
