This article aims to analyze and explore Natalia Borges Polesso’s novel A Extinção das Abelhas, released in 2021. Set in a post-2020 world, the narrative unfolds amidst a series of collapses, encompassing areas such as the environment, food, and interpersonal relationships. A highlighted element is the “collapseometer”, a unique machine capable of tallying Earth’s days, underscoring the gravity of the situation. The book delves into themes such as abandonment, loneliness, resilience, and the quest for meaningful connections during the crisis. Additionally, it explores the complexity of the human condition, conveying ideas and emotions through the narrative crafted by the author. The novel provides an insightful perspective on the fragility of society in a world on the brink of collapse.
