A new economy (or life as a game)

This paper attempts to confront Georges Bataille’s reading of life as a game with the contemporary “marginal” novels Cidade de Deus (Paulo Lins) and Capão Pecado (Ferréz). From the “Homo Ludens” to the “Homo sacer”, it pretends to show that the violence exposed in these novels reveal the formation of a new economy, one which reinforces its bonds with sovereignty and deepens even more the zone of in-distinction between executioner and victim, leaving not a single space for redemption.Downloads
