In this paper, which has as its basis some of the texts written by the French philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy, I try to discuss some aspects of the formation of the subjects’, or even the citizens’, collective consciousness concerning the nation. For this purpose, I analyze part of the shaping of the Brazilian consciousness (in constant opposition to the American consciousness) taking into account a frequent entity in the Western world: the muse(s).
