The present article intends to re-read some of the works of Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen where the theme of the trip, in the double movement to reread tradition and to break it, is problematized in the face of the new period of democratization and modernization of Portuguese society after the revolution . It is from this discussions that emerged in this new context that the so-called return to Europe imposed on Portugal the need to reinvent itself. It is known that the Salazarist State has constantly associated its history with the great achievements of maritime expansion, legitimating continually the colonial ideology. How to redefine the symbolic imagery of the Country without erasing its history of achievements? How to recount this same story, but now on new foundations - that of democracy? Weaving this shift in the plot of the poetic text was one of the challenges faced by the poet, underscoring the political and symbolic ambiguities of the country in relation to both its past and the territories just out of its domain.Downloads
