The present article, based on the Marxist theory about alienated work to characterize capitalist society, proposes a reflection on the symbolic relationship that is proposed by the film A Vila (The Village, 2004) between contemporary capitalist society, the feeling of alienation and the nostalgia for precedent and more satisfying forms of social organization of human existence. Shyamalan's authored and directed film was released in July 2004, whose filmography is characterized by a final adventure that usually forces the audience to reinterpret the narrative as a metaphor. It is a narrative of horror and mystery. The references to the red color that attracts the creatures of the forest, the dark atmosphere of the forest, the vigil and fear in which the inhabitants of the village live stand out. Horror and mystery are the publicity marks of the film. The Village promotes and elaborates a reflection on the forms - practices and discourses - of contestation of capitalist society that in their criticism resort to the rhetoric of alienation.
