Neologisms in contemporary female literature from Mato Grosso do Sul

Abstract

This paper presents a communication carried out during the 2023 edition of the International Seminar on Linguistic Studies (SIEL) of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS), disclosing the partial results of a master’s research of the Post-Graduate Program in Language Studies (PPGEL UFMS). The initial data already show that the neological creation is a strong stylistic mark of contemporary Mato Grosso do Sul female literature. For this work we present a brief theoretical framework on Neology and literary Neology, then discuss some issues related to literature produced in the state and, very briefly, we talk about the writers who make up the research corpus: Tania Souza, Raquel Medina Dias and Diana Pilatti. We conclude with an analysis of the processes of formation of some neologisms created by the authors mentioned, as well as the analysis of the expressive effect produced by the neologisms within the works, because literary neologism is often created not to meet a need for the non-existence of a word in the language, but for the need of the writer to express him/herself, producing an expressive effect with an aesthetic purpose.
