Abstract
Record of orange-headed tanager Thlypopsis sordida (d’Orbigny & Lafresnaye, 1837) (Aves, Thraupidae) in Santa Catarina state, southern Brazil. The orange-headed tanager Thlypopsis sordida (Aves; Thraupidae) is a canopy bird that occurs in Venezuela, Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina and in the part of Brazil extending from the extreme south up to Paraná state. On days 8 and 20 of August 2005, individuals were observed in the Ponta da Divinéia (26º53’41”S and 48º39’38”W), city of Navegantes, to the banks of the Itajaí-Açu river, situated on the opposite side of the port of Itajaí. The sighting was registered in quaternary plain forest, surrounded by fields of pasture modified for the constant and intensive presence of cattle. Thisrecord of T. sordida is the first ever for the state of Santa Catarina. Apparently, the species is extending its distribution range due to the fragmentation of its habitat.
