Abstract
The present experiment was carried out at Unesp/FCA-Botucatu, Brazil, and the objective was to evaluate the effects of plant growth regulators and retardants on the development of 3 month-old rangpur lime (Citrus limonia Osbeck) seedlings and 4-month-old Citrumelo Swingle hybrid (Citrus paradisi. x Poncirus trifoliata) seedlings, in the nursery stage, up to the time of the grafting. The exeriment was set up in a split plot desing, utilizing four replications, two rootstocks and six treatments: control, GA3 (gibberellic acid), 50 and 100mg.L-1; GA4+7 + Phenylmethylaminopurine (Promalin), 50 and 100 mg.L-1, and the mixture of GA3 (100 mg.L-1) and plant growth retardant, Chlormequat - 500 mg.L-1. The results showed that plant growth regulators and retardants did not affect Citrumelo Swingle development at these rates. However, in rangpur lime seedlings GA3 (100 mg.L-1), there were increases in the plant height and in the stem diameter of the fifteen cm under the soil line, the time for grafting being reduced by thirty-one days in comparison to control. GA4+7 + Phenylmethylaminopurine (100 mg.L-1) and the mixture of GA3 + Chlormequat (500 mg.L-1) increased the number of leaves compared to control. The application of plant growth regulators and retardants had no effects on other parameters (stem dry weight).Downloads
