Abstract
The Campus of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) has as essentially urban landscape, with various species of exotic fast growing trees as well as exotic shrubs. Fifty eight species of birds were identified in the Campus of UFSC, belonging to 25 families. From these, the insectivorous guild was the most abundant, comprising 36,2% (21 species) of the total. Six species (10,3% of the total) of nectarivorous birds were recorded. The frugivorous were scarcely represented, comprising 13,8% (8 species) of the total due to the scarcity of fruits. From the 58 species recorded, 20,68% (12 species) breed in the area. The characteristics of birds in this area are those of an urban environment, in which insectivorous birds, specially synanthropic species, are privileged in detriment of others. However, management measures, such as reforestation with native plants, may be adopted to ensure the maintenance and/or to increase the biodiversity in the area.Downloads
