Abstract
The number and the patterns of spatio/temporal distribution of signs of Lutra longicaudis, such as spraint sites, spraints, anal gelic, footprints and scratchs, were studied on the lagoons of Conceição and Peri (Santa Catarina Island, SC, Brasil), between november/93 and october/94. A stretch of 1000m from the edge of both lagoons was delimited, divided in 20 sampling stations of 50m each, and observed monthly. The availability of vegetal cover, potential dens, food resources and the human interference were also assessed. Results show a seasonal variation in the number of signs. The Peri Lagoon shows the highest values in Winer and Spring, while the Conceição Lagoon shows irregular values, but with the highest values in Spring and Summer. The analisis of signs stretch distribution for both lagoons show a cluster pattern, usually associated with a better vegetal cover and potential dens.Downloads
