We hereby revise the classic and the most recent proposals for the classification of the Formicidae into subfamilies, that profoundly affect the usual system. We also comment the characters used by the authors in these new proposals, and their limits, in the light of the fossils knowlodge. Finally we comment the state-of-art for each subfamily occuring in the Neotropics.Downloads
