The occurrence of cross inoculation of "marica" (Mimosa bimucronata (D.C.) O. Kuntze) and "bracatinga" (M. scabrella) by isolates obtained from nodules collected in both species was verified in different regions in the State of Santa Catarina. Seedlings were axenically cultivated in tubes of Jensen medium supplemented by a micronutrient solution and were maintained in the growth chamber. "Marica" formed nodules after inoculation in at least 1 out of 3 inoculated tubes and "bracatinga" with almost all isolates of "marica". These data show the occurrence of cross inoculation and the specificity of some strains. As some isolates did not induce nodulation or nodulation occurred in only 1 or 2 seedlings it is possible that the medium used might not be adequate or that seedlings age or genetic variability might have influenced the results.Downloads
