Knowledge building about performance evaluation for organizational management: an investigation on international scientific research

Abstract

Management Accounting practices (MA) related to the Performance Evaluation (PE) changed radically in recent decades. This research analyzed the international scientific publications that address performance evaluation in order to generate knowledge to identify gaps and indicate guidelines for future investigations. It was selected the Knowledge Development Process - Constructivist, to form a bibliographic portfolio of 25 articles and perform bibliometric and systemic analysis. Based on the gaps identified, challenges for researchers and managers were listed: making the PM part of the organizational culture with employee involvement in the evaluation processes; customizing the PM context and incorporate the preferences of people involved; identifying relationships that must be considered, conflicts of interest of the various stakeholders to incorporate the aspects to be measured; ensuring scientific validity to the assessment carried out; identifying trade-offs to measure individual aspects; reducing information asymmetry; developing strategies to improve management; and permeating the organizational learning.
