Abstract

This paper analyses the innovation policies for Indian pharmaceutical industry between 2005 and 2019. Through literature review and documentary analysis of the policies that most affect the productive and technological capacity of the Indian pharmaceutical industry - industrial / CT&I, price and sanitary and intellectual property, we observe how these policies and the role of the government evolved and changed according to the different stages of development of this industry. It is argued that India's case is a clear example of how the definition of well-defined strategic objectives, continuous and well-articulated political actions, and the presence of long-term goals and vision of development by the government is one of the key factors for the success of a technological sector, and serves as a learning tool for policy planning for the pharmaceutical industry in other developing countries.
