Abstract

My central assertion is that in world history in general, and in particular in history of knowledge, the dynamic process of globalisation presupposes and relies on a fundamental static counterpart for which I use here the word globality. To support this contention, I start from an analogy between the genesis of the world, cosmogony, elaborating on philosophical and theological points to draw my analogy. Then I introduce examples from research on history of early modern science, to do with Indian Ocean navigation and the early modern Iberian expansion.
