Aportes para una discusión sobre las sociedades esclavistas mediterráneas antiguas

En el artículo se presentan algunas discusiones historiográficas sostenidas durante los últimos cincuenta años en los estudios sobre la esclavitud en el mundo mediterráneo clásico. Se analizan algunas de las elaboraciones recientes por parte de Fabio Duarte Joly y José Moura Knust en la crítica que elaboran a la idea de "sociedad esclavista" en oposición a la de "sociedad con esclavos" sistematizada por Moses Finley, así como algunos de los tratamientos posteriores del concepto realizados por otros historiadores. Se presentan además algunas consideraciones sobre la idea de los "sistemas esclavistas", en particular en relación con el análisis del papel de la circulación mercantil en los procesos de esclavización. Se desarrollan también algunas precisiones en cuanto a la comparación entre la esclavización en el mundo antiguo mediterráneo y la ocurrida en el mundo atlántico moderno, con especial énfasis en el tratamiento de las sociedades coloniales esclavistas americanas.
