Know program (Patronato Municipal de Jacarezinho): reflective process regarding drugs

The criminal enforcement organ “Patronato Municipal de Jacarezinho”, formed by a multidisciplinary team, systematically monitors people serving sentences in open regime (assisted). With high rates of drugs-related crimes in this region, the KNOW Program, run by the Patronato, is based on the perspective of harm reduction. Objective: to promote the reflection about the consequences the use / abuse of drugs. Method: it is structured in eight weekly meetings planned by a social worker and a psychologist. In these meetings there are discussions, lectures and the assisted can share experiences involving drug use. If necessary, the Program indicates therapeutic rehabilitation centers for those who needs it. Results: From 2013 to 2014, the program has completed five classes, serving 34 assisted. Conclusion: there is positive feedback regarding the program, and there was inclusion of an assisted in the labor market. So far there has been no record of recurrence in criminal practices in the judiciary system.Downloads
