The extension project “Look at the routine of rural activity and extension actions through photographs" used photography as an artistic tool for developing critical thinking and self-reflection, as a form of self-esteem and promotion of self-esteem of the residents and workers of rural spaces in the municipalities of Pelotas and Piratini, RS, Brazil. Photographs were taken of families and everyday activities of dairy farmers, their environments of life and living, which were presented monthly through collective exhibitions during the technical meetings and exchange of experiences that took place in the communities and, at the end of the project, with images exhibition and delivery to the families of enlarged photographs. During the observation of the photographs the producers and family members talked about the places that were taken, what was the image and their impressions about them, often generating wonder and admiration. This project allowed us to move towards the construction of the knowledge we want, as members of the University, together with the community in which we operate.
