The program “Gota d’água” corresponds to a university extension action promoted by the Federal University of São João del-Rei. The main goal of the program is to demonstrate and to promote discussions in regular schools regarding the importance of freshwater ecosystems and how we relate to them. The watercourses are important water sources for indigenous communities. Therefore, their conservation is crucial. To promote actions that aim the conservation of watercourses, information about its diversity is essential. The present manuscript reports the experience of the program’s scholarship student, in partnership with a teacher from the “Leonardo Villas Boas Indigenous School”, interacting with children and adolescents from the Utawana community, Mehinako ethnicity in Gaúcha do Norte county, Alto Rio Xingu, state of Mato Grosso, Brazil.
