MODELING WITH DEAF STUDENTS: HANDS THAT MAKE, HANDS THAT SPEAK

Resumen

This article aims to describe the activities developed during the extension project of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), entitled "Modeling for Deaf Students', carried out from July to December 2006. The project has the support of Pró-Reitoria de Pesquisa e Extensão da UFSC (PRPE-UFSC) and was executed with the intent to conduct free workshops for deaf students from various institutions of the region of Florianópolis (SC), covering techniques of modeling (on paper and clay) to instigate and develop the creativity, manual skills and concentration of the students. Moreover, it was also sought explore these activities as a form of recreation and also of providing a new source of income for the students.
