The Zumbi dos Palmares Apiário and the new socio-territorial dynamics of countryside-city and rural-urban relations in the rural space of União dos Palmares-AL

Abstract

Over the last few decades, the debate on the relationship between the countryside and the city and the rural and urban áreas has become a relevant topic in the human and social sciences. The countryside and the city have undergone profound transformations that have resulted in new sócio-territorial dynamics in the relationships between these spatial áreas, imposing the need to re-discuss the meanings of the contentes of rural and urban. In the current technical-scientific-informational period, the countryside-city relations are focused both on the debate on the tendency towards urbanization of society, due to the process of technological and scientific modernization that has ocurred in the countryside, expanding the relations between agriculture and industry, and on the process of revaluation of the countryside. The work aims to analyze the countryside-city and rural-urban relations established by Apiário Zumbi dos Palmares, seeking to characterize the new socio-spatial dynamics that have emerged in the rural space of the municipality of União dos Palmares. The research metodology is qualitative and quantitative, based on bibliographic studies, field observation, application of questionnaires to employees, resident living around the researched area and semi-structured interviews to incorporate the work database. The results obtained through the developmet of the work reveal that the Zumbi dos Palmares Apiary develops a set of relationships in the rural-urban countryside-city contexto in which, over the years, it has been creating a new territorial configuration through a dynamic that develops dialectically in the rural space of União dos Palmares. In view of this, this work proves to be very relevant to the field of geographic Science from the perspective of studying the countryside-city and rural-urban relationship.
