Abstract

Many current environmental problems are connected to climate disruptions, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the ways in which individuals perceive their atmospheric environment, which depend on gender, age, social groupings, culture and personal experiences. The study evaluated the perception of weather and climate conditions of the rural and urban inhabitants of Campinas, SP. One hundred people were interviewed, answering questions related to weather conditions and the climatic regime of the area, as well as the current environmental changes. Results revealed the inhabitants of the rural sector observe more accurately and constantly the atmospheric conditions, but the urban life style is influencing deeply the inhabitants of the rural area. Many of them are originally from cities and moved to the rural sector pursuing a natural life style, but their behaviors are divorced from the environment.
