Abstract

World cities are a specific kind of field for material and immaterial production which have a primary role in the coordination of the globalization process. They are the knots on this net, concentrating and centralizing the capital, finances, technology, modern services, marketing and the new forms of commerce. It is in the world cities that the power of decision, command, is established. That is where the political and economic guidelines for the international market come from. Therefore, this article aims to discuss the role of the world cities in the globalization process, emphasizing the nature of this concept and its most important attributes. São Paulo city its our example to discuss this concept.
