Forms, functions, structures and processes of industrial space in Piracicaba (SP): sugarcane complex, industrial districts and automotive park

The economic development of Piracicaba city was well-marked by two activities: sugarcane cultivation and sugar production consisted the basis of local industrialization. The manufacturing sector has relevance through the production of equipment for sugar plants and for alcohol and sugar cane liquor distilleries, developing metallurgy and mechanics. The development of metal-mechanic field, the public and private politics for factories’ installation and the entry of international capital through multinationals contributed to the installation of industrial districts in Piracicaba and showing new forms, functions and processes in the city mentioned. In the past, Piracicaba was known because sugarcane cultivation, currently, there is a diversification of economic activities with the installation of new industrial fields, commercial stores and service businesses in industrial districts and, more recently, with the installation of an automotive park.
