Carlos Augusto de Figueiredo Monteiro: researcher, intellectual, but above all a very special human being

Abstract

Carlos Augusto de Figueiredo Monteiro, or simply Cacá, as he was affectionately called by his friends, was an intellectual in geographic science with wide national and international recognition, mainly for his works in the area of climatology. This text reports an episode that occurred in 2004, when he was invited to give the opening lecture of the Geography Week at the Aquidauana Campus of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul. Based solely on the author's experiences, as responsible for the invitation to Professor Carlos Augusto, this text, in report format, presents a humanist, cheerful and deeply sympathetic side of Professor Cacá, which goes beyond his intellectual and professional characteristics, seeking to highlight that science is made up of scientific knowledge, data, interpretation, but mainly people.
